Pool Decking Across Georgia

The deck is where everyone actually is: the loungers, the towels, the barbecue, the wet feet. It is also the surface that decides whether the area around the pool is comfortable in August. Aqualis Pools also takes on projects across Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.

What Pool Decking Is, and What It Is Not

The decking is the paved surface surrounding the pool, from the coping outward. It carries the furniture, the foot traffic and the drainage, and it is usually the largest single area in a backyard project.

What it is not: the coping. That is the capped edge at the water, a different job with a different page at pool tile and coping. And it is not resurfacing. If you already have a deck and it is cracked, faded or rough, you probably want pool deck resurfacing, which goes over the existing slab and costs considerably less than replacing it. We will tell you which of the two you actually need after looking at the slab.

Choosing a Material: Grip, Heat and Upkeep

Three things separate deck materials in practice, and only one of them is appearance.

How hot it gets. This is the decision people most often regret. A Georgia deck in full August sun can be genuinely uncomfortable barefoot, and materials differ substantially in how much heat they hold. Lighter colours and certain surfaces stay noticeably cooler than darker, denser ones. If the pool gets sun all afternoon, this should drive the choice more than the colour scheme does.

Grip when wet. A pool deck is walked on barefoot and wet by definition. Texture matters, and it varies a great deal between a textured paver and a smooth honed stone.

What it asks of you later. Pavers can be lifted and reset if the ground moves, which is a real advantage over a poured slab that cracks. Natural stone is beautiful and needs more care. Concrete is the cheapest and the most likely to need resurfacing within a decade.

Drainage, which is not a material at all. Where the water goes matters more than what it runs across. A deck that drains toward the house, or that pools water in the low corner, is a problem no material fixes.

How the Work Runs

We look at the space, how you move through it, and where the water needs to go. Layout comes before material: how much room is actually needed for loungers and a table, where people walk between the house and the pool, and whether the run should extend into wider hardscaping or connect to paver patios and walkways and pathways.

Installation covers site preparation, base, drainage falls, laying and finishing. Most installations take a few days to a couple of weeks depending on the area and the material, and you get a schedule during planning.

Where the ground changes level, retaining walls form part of the same job rather than a separate one, and it is much cheaper to build them at the same time.

What Pool Decking Costs

Cost follows the area, the material and the groundwork. Concrete is the most affordable, pavers sit in the middle and offer the repairability advantage, and natural stone is the most expensive. Site preparation is the variable people underestimate: a flat, accessible yard and a sloping one with poor access are different projects at the same square footage.

If the existing deck is structurally sound, compare this against pool deck resurfacing before committing, because resurfacing is materially cheaper and often the right answer.

Financing is available where decking forms part of a larger project, explained on our pool financing options page.

Where the Deck Meets the Rest of the Garden

A pool deck is the edge of the pool and the start of the garden, and it is worth designing as both. On the pool side that means pool tile and coping, pool lighting in the deck and steps, and pool fencing with posts set into new deck rather than cored into old. On the garden side it means paver patios, walkways and pathways and the wider hardscaping plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Decking is building the surface. Resurfacing goes over an existing slab that is structurally sound but worn, and it costs considerably less. If your deck is cracked cosmetically rather than structurally, start with pool deck resurfacing.

It depends on the material and the finish, not on decking in general. Textured surfaces grip better wet than smooth honed ones, and it is a decision worth making deliberately rather than assuming.

Yes. Decking is independent of the pool structure, so it can be replaced or extended without work on the shell. It is often done alongside other work simply because the machinery and crew are already on site.

Most installations take a few days to a couple of weeks depending on the area and material, and you get a clear schedule during planning.

Two answers get most of the way to a quote: roughly how much area you need, and how much sun the space gets. The second one matters more than people expect and it changes the material conversation entirely.
