Illuminate Your Pool, Day or Night
Pool Lighting Across Georgia
Lighting decides whether a pool is usable after sunset or just a dark shape in the garden. It is also one of the cheaper upgrades available, and one of the few that changes the whole space rather than one part of it. Aqualis Pools also takes on projects across Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.
Lighting That Enhances Every Detail
What Pool Lighting Covers, and What It Does Not
Three things usually get grouped under this heading and they are worth separating. Lights inside the pool shell, which are what people picture. Lighting around the pool, on the deck, steps and paths, which is what actually makes the space usable and safe at night. And feature lighting on water features or planting, which is decorative.
People usually arrive wanting the first, and the second is what makes the space usable. A brilliantly lit pool surrounded by a dark deck is worse than the reverse, because the hazard is the edge, not the water.
What it is not: an electrical afterthought. Lights in a pool are wired into a system that has to be specified, installed and protected correctly, which is the subject of the safety section below rather than a detail to skip past.
Why Invest in Pool Lighting?
Pool lighting offers a perfect blend of aesthetics and functionality. It enhances visibility, making nighttime swimming safer while highlighting the unique design features of your pool. When combined with pool features & addons and fire features, lighting creates a dynamic and inviting atmosphere that transforms your backyard into a nighttime retreat.
In addition to safety and ambiance, modern LED lighting systems are energy-efficient and cost-effective. They require minimal maintenance and offer customizable color options to suit any mood or occasion. When integrated with elements like pool decking, spillover spas, and hot tubs, lighting helps create a complete outdoor experience that increases both usability and property value.
Decisions Worth Making Before Anything Is Wired
Colour, or white.
Colour-changing systems are genuinely fun for entertaining, and plenty of owners then leave them on white most of the time. Both are fine; the regret worth avoiding is paying for colour you never use.
How many, and where.
Lights are placed to avoid glare into the eyes of anyone sitting by the pool, which usually means fewer and better-placed rather than more.
Inside and outside together.
Deck, steps and path lighting matter as much as the pool lights themselves, and they are cheapest to install while the ground is open, so worth deciding alongside pool decking work.
Control.
Lighting is one of the easiest things to put on a controller, so if automation is being considered under pool equipment upgrades, decide it at the same time rather than wiring twice.
Timing.
Retrofitting lighting into a full pool is possible but more involved than fitting it while the pool is drained. If pool resurfacing is on the horizon, do the lighting then.
What Pool Lighting Costs
It depends on how many fixtures, whether they are white or colour-changing, and how much of the wiring already exists. Adding lights to a pool that was built with conduit for them is a modest job. Retrofitting into a pool that has none is a bigger one, because the cost is in the access and the wiring rather than the fixtures.
On running cost, LED fixtures draw considerably less power than the incandescent fixtures they replaced and last far longer between changes, which matters more than usual for a light that sits behind a pool wall.
Financing is available if lighting is part of a larger project, explained on our pool financing options page.
Lighting as Part of Other Work
Lighting is cheapest to install when something else is already open. During pool resurfacing the pool is drained. During pool tile and coping work the waterline is accessible. And if fire features or outdoor living work is planned, the lighting for the whole space should be designed once rather than in three separate passes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Fixtures inside the pool, lighting around the deck and steps, and feature lighting on water features or planting. Inside the pool the choice is broadly between plain white and colour-changing LED systems, and both can be controlled from a panel or a phone if the pool has automation.
Usually yes. How straightforward it is depends on whether the pool was built with conduit for lighting. Where it was not, the work involves more access and wiring, which is where the cost sits. We assess the pool and tell you which situation you are in before quoting.
Yes. LED fixtures draw considerably less power than the incandescent fixtures they replaced, and they last far longer, which matters for a light that is awkward to reach.
It depends on the scope and on whether wiring already exists. Simple upgrades take a few days, larger systems longer, and you get a clear timeline during the consultation.
Start Planning Your Lighting
Two answers get most of the way to a quote: whether the pool already has lights or conduit for them, and whether you want the pool lit or the whole space usable after dark. Those lead to different jobs and quite different budgets.
